Ithaca Gun Serial Numbers

Ithaca Gun Serial Numbers

Here is a chart I recovered from the old Ithaca website. Ithaca Model 37 Repeater Serial Number Listing by Year. Enflow Service Manual.

The serial number list that most of us work off of is from Walt Snyder's book on the History of the Model 37 & 87 Featherlight, and is copyrighted. Anyone who has read Mr.

Snyder's book cannot help but appreciate the amount of work and dedication it took to do such a thorough job of research as he obviously did. This book is not inexpensive, but is worth every penney. I have loved Ithaca shotguns since the mid 60's, but I had never learned so much about them as I did in the first three nights of reading his book.

A few later contracts produced smaller numbers of guns with sling swivels and serial numbers in the high. Visit the post for more. Call 419-294-4113 to become a dealer.

If you can afford it I strongly recommend you buy his book. You won't regret it. Your gun certainly sounds like a Model 37S. In 1948 Ithaca only made two 37 models with a ventilated rib, the 37T and the 37S. If you look on your receiver were the serial number is I'm sure you will find an S stamped near it, just above or below the serial number. The Model 37R was a solid rib gun. One last question. How was the stock originally finished? The only thing wrong with the gun is the poor finish condition on both the bluing and the stock. It looks like there is/was varnish on the wood and it is chipping off. I plan to strip it, finish it and re cut the checkering on the stock and fore end. The blueing is almost entirely gone on the magazine tube, and is showing very light pitting on a couple places. If the wood looks nice after refinishing I'll reblue it.

Not bad for $100, looking forward to dusting some pigeons this afternoon with it.
